Gumstix: The Brains Behind Khepera IV Swarms

Khepera IV Open Source real-life robot swarms have been benchmarked and analyzed by Jorge M. Soares , Iñaki Navarro and Alcherio Martinoli from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland and the Laboratory of Robotics and Systems in Engineering and Science, Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon.

Search and Rescue

Jin Q. Cui et al, at the National University of Singapore, have used the Overo FIRESTORM COM to build drones that can be used for search and rescue missions in post-disaster situations. Check out their 2016 paper in Unmanned Systems.

Low-Cost Swarming

A group of electrical engineers at the Czech Technical University in Prague have recently employed Overo COMs and the Caspa Camera modules in their lost-cost swarming project. Check out Jan Faigl, Tomáš Krajník, Jan Chudoba and Martin Saska’s 2013 paper in the

CubeSats

Gumstix in Space! Originally created at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and Stanford University’s Space Systems Development Lab, CubeSat allows researches to carry our their projects beyond the confines of Earth’s atmosphere. The University of North Dakota’s OpenOrbiter Small Spacecraft Development Initiative has recently utilized the Gumstix Overo WaterSTORM COM for their CubeSats research.
